Default ALERT: Minor disruption possible

We are going to fix the annoying character encoding problem sometime today or tomorrow (Thursday/Friday, June 12/13).

At that time, the forum will disappear for about 10 minutes. You will instead see a succinct notice on a plain HTML page. After that, we should be perfect (hah!) again.

Thanks for your patience.

How do I always manage to miss your alerts!?! Not that what it alerts for isn't obvious.

Dunno. In this case, for once, you actually had adequate time.

They did the deed early yesterday evening, EDT, after I went to dinner. I have been keeping a laptop on the dining room table, so checked around 8:30 p.m., and found the altered and (almost) restored forum — no sections (forums)! Fortunately, that happened the first time we restored the database, and I knew the trick: I made a new section, and all the others popped up.
