I always look for a link to the author's own webpage - go right to the source. Some even publish MD5 hashes so you can check the file you download hasn't been tampered with. And then, when you've installed it, you can run anti-virus, anti-ad and anti-spyware on it. To be even more secure you could install on a virtual machine.

In my search for security software for my USB "nerd-on-stick" little project I came across several steganography programs, but haven't downloaded (let alone tested) any one of them yet. (If you want links, let me know - I think I noted a few.)

Actually, I am part of a worldwide movement that has underground factions in Vietnam and China. I wouldn’t know how to contact them, but I would converse with them if I could do something positive on their behalf – if they spoke English, as I’ve always had reservations about using interpreters, but maybe, I should get over that.
My personal experience is that many people both in Vietnam and in China speak English now though the percentage varies by region. You could try Skype - both phone conversations and (text) chat are encrypted, something I know is appreciated by quite a few people in China.

But already some company from China was trying to break into my computer for a couple weeks for some reason.
Seriously? Care to give us some details on what happened?
