Default David Berlow in Boston Globe

Unless you're in the design or publishing industry, David Berlow won't bother explaining his line of work to you.

"Trying to explain that I'm a font designer to people who don't know what a font is can get too complicated," says Berlow.

But Ms Keene (the paper’s correspondent) makes a pretty mess of explaining what a font is too:

‘A font is how type looks on a page or screen; for example, right now you're reading this article in a newspaper typeface, or font, that's a certain size and style.’

But

Just to be clear, Barack Obama does not "have his own font," but simply chose to license a distinctive couple of fonts, Gotham for the sans, and Perpetua for the serif. On the other hand Beyonce and Kate Moss each commissioned a custom typeface (from Porchez and Paul Barnes, respectively), so each of them truly "has her own font."

Cheers,
