Thanks. I didn't spend a lot of time on it, so a competent person could probably do a lot better.

I'm scratching my head trying to imagine how the image got dimensionally distorted like that. It's not only stretched left to right, but also diagonally. All I can think of is that the original was held off the scanner glass at an angle--but ISTM that would also cause it to be all out of focus. The image's EXIF data says it was produced with a CanoScan 8600F. I've got a CanoScan scanner, and I'm not sure it could produce such a crappy scan even if I tried! Maybe it's a software issue. I dunno.
