I don't know if a lot of people realize that Photoshop's eyedropper can select colors from the screen outside the Photoshop application. With a document open in Photoshop, select the eyedropper tool. Then click and drag the eyedropper off the document to select a color from your desktop, another application, etc. and let go when over the color you want to sample.
