Default Looking for a good image share website

Can anyone recommend a good website for sharing photos? I have several wedding photos that I'd like to post for my family but I want them to be able to download the high resolution images from the site to their computer. Most of the sites either charge you a fee, which I'd rather not pay, or they are really limited in the amount of pictures you can put up. I'd love a recommendation or two!!! Thanks!

You could probably set up a web site on an inexpensive hosting service and do it yourself. You would need to get a domain name, but the rest of it would be entirely up to you. There are some open source (i.e., free) or shareware (inexpensive) photo gallery programs that you could use.

I suppose you have already checked out Flckr (I know nothing about it, but many people do seem to use it).

Most image sites are set up to allow the viewer to buy prints rather than d/l the digital versions (Mpix, ofoto, Photobox etc.)

If you are happy with doing a bit of tinkering, you'd probably be better off making your own web site as KT says: Coppermine or Jalbum are examples of web galleries that you could use, I think. Both use PHP to work, so your web host needs to support the right version (most do.)

Check out My Opera - you get free albums and a blog as well - as long as it all fits withing 300MB. Albums can be private, if you wish, so only your friends and family can see them.

I have been very happy with the features at http://smugmug.com. Not free, but storage is unlimited and support is great. They store full resolution images and display at several user-selectable sizes, including original.

Flickr !
So simple to use, and the best part is that other viewers can add comments so easily, as the interface is so simple, that it encourages more dialogue compared to other photo sites.

Another site I just stumbled upon (while looking for image hosting that allows hotlinking) is ImageOX; I have no experience with them but they seem to have a lot of features, and it's free. Worth checking out!
