Default Adobe InDesign 3: Open PM6.5 files?

Well, I tried to open some PM6.5 legacy files on an older InDesign 3 installation (all PC) to see what it would be like to migrate to new software if I can't get PM6.5 to run under Vista. (Well, run yes, print to a system printer, no.)

And InDesign threw up an error message about it may be missing a plug-in, or it may not be a valid file (it is) or the moon may be made of blue cheese.

Any help on figuring out when ID really needs to open PM6.5 files? And if there's a working demo to dl, the way QXP has demos available?
