Did you have the system custom built or did you order it from one of the "standard" computer companies?

Did you stick with XP or did you go with Vista? I've read ugly things about Vista from sources I trust which is why I didn't even consider it when I had this new system built locally...
I am buying (or have bought: it's already paid for) a standard system. It has an Intel Core Duo 6750 c.p.u., 4 Gbyte memory (should that be 4 Gbit?), and 256 Mbyte (or Mbit) graphics. I chose the Iiyama 60 cm TFT monitor. Should be enough to last me! It's got a ridiculously big hard drive: 750 Gbyte.

I'm getting Vista, because the experts say it works well enough, and anyway, XP would have cost £50 more.

We don't often buy anything other than a complete system in the UK, unlike you in the USA.
