Two "gotchas" stand out for me:

1) 4-level grey scale. Fine for books (novels, etc.) but I'm not sure how many magazines would look good with 4-level grey (maybe why they're only charging $1.99 per month for the magazines).

2) EVDO. If the EVDO network in the US is anything like it is here in Canada, the Kindle will be an urbanites' gadget. Here, EVDO coverage is only available within a few kilometres of the major cities. Even in the US, I wonder how useful a Kindle would be to someone in, say, Podunk, Wyoming. Probably useless for casual reading out at the lake, unless you downloaded your content before you left the city.
