When I first found Aptana, I was very pleased.

Then I discovered it was nothing but a special edition of Eclipse + Aptana plugin - an edition that could not be extended with other Eclipse plugins (some essential parts missing). So I just scrapped it, installed the full Eclipse IDE, and then the Aptana plugin, as well as several others (Mylar, PHP, Subclipse with a Trac connector, regular expressions... I have a whole integrated toolbox now.

And there's a new plugin that I haven't explored yet:
Rich Ajax Platform (RAP) 1.0 is available for download
at http://www.eclipse.org/rap/
The RAP project enables developers to build rich, Ajax-enabled Web applications by using the Eclipse development model, plug-ins with the well known Eclipse workbench extension points and a widget toolkit with SWT API (plus JFace).
I suspect Aptana may be betting on the wrong horse here. Who wants to pay money for tools for open web standards and technologies when free ones are available?

RAP looks like the next tool to be added to my toolbox.
