I bought a little bus-powered USB hard drive the other day (needs 2 USB ports) - very neat and works well.

Things to be aware of is who makes the drive inside: Toshiba and Seagate are generally the most reliable; MaxTor, Western Digital, Lacie and Freecom etc to be avoided if possible.

(Drives tend to pack up pretty quickly if they are going to IME - so if you get past the first few months, you are probably good for a few years!)
