Default Big Anthro sale, 35% off

Anthro is having a 35% off birthday sale on many items all through October with weekly specials as well.

I have a 5-year-old computer table from them, and it is still like new after 5 years. It is very configurable and attractive, in a heavy, geeky sort of way. They offer all sorts of accessorites, including a side rack for a CPU tower, a cable garage (and other gadgets for controlling cables and wires), shelves, drawers — almost anything you can think of.

They ship the furniture flat, along with all the tools needed to assemble it. Very elegant, really.

I think I will get a new smaller (30-inch rather than 48-inch) one from the Fit series for my new computer so I can move it around more easily. Then I will set up a table or desk to one side for papers and a writing/reading surface. And I am thinking of a little thing for my laptop as well.

Site didn’t work with Safari, but did all right with Firefox (I think).

How do they cope with the cable bumps generated by power boards, modems, routers and laptop power cables? These are my biggest headaches.

That is just like IKEA, but of course IKEA has the customer pick up the furniture.

I am quite happy with my "L" shaped desk from IKEA. It now has four computers, three of which hang from shelves under the desk. A KVM switch allows me to have just three sets of keyboard, video and mouse with four computers. I am sharing the ink jet (USB) printer among three computers with a switch. I should try to share the parallel port HP LaserJet 4 Plus, since it is much cheaper than an inkjet HP in terms of ink, but of course it is black and white, not color.

For all of their many options, none of the tables appear to be adjustable height and they are all too high for me--and no, the FIT adjustable height "tray" doesn't do it for me--but...they make pretty cool stuff...

All the tables in the Fit and the original Anthro line are adjustable, with holes in the uprights at one-inch intervals. Then they are rock solid. (You would need to take the computer off to change the height, though.)

They also have a few that adjust by way of levers, for use sitting or standing, say, but I haven’t actually seen or used them.

That is very good to know! While I've found their prices high (haven't checked in a long while), the main reason why I never investigated them further was what I thought was a fixed height...

OK...I went and looked again--I find their site annoyingly difficult--and the only adjustable height table I can find is in the Kids area and it's more like a cart when what I'm looking for is a 30"/48" adjustable height table...

I guess if I were really in the market, I'd just email them giving them my specs and asking what they might have that would suit...

It is a dreadful site. I am going to have to phone to order what I want because their computer doesn’t register my options correctly, and I think I will suggest they look into what’s wrong with it.

Anyway, I just got Jack to look and there are indeed 1-inch height adjustments. And you can buy extenders to achieve any maximum height, though I know there are side rails that allow for support of a top shelf at, probably, 5 or 6 feet.

Probably a good idea. I remember that they were pleasant to deal with, and on the phone prevents confusion from creeping in.

Dunno. Never occurred to me that there could be anything to help with that stuff. When I call, I’ll try to remember to ask.

I do have the cable garage thing, and it does keep lines untangled and out of the way, but just up to a point.

Yeah...I saw that and got excited until I realized that they are used above the table which is something I'd never use--my table/desk is in front of my window...

If I were in the market, hopefully their email response would bes as good as their phone response...

Their site design is pretty nasty...it's virtually impossible to find what you might want because their use of categories doesn't fit the way I think about things.

I think what I'd find helpful is to be able to find their products say by table length (perhaps a range) because I know what length I need. Then if the result showed me all of the tables they offered in that size (or range of size...for example 30"-48"), then one could pick/choose to look at the details...

I do remember that I did look at their site when I was looking for new tables for my office but found it so annoyingly confusing that I never went back...

I wonder how their paper catalogue is arranged? Do you have one? Is it as confusing as their website?

They deliver as well here (for a price - but it beats schlepping the stuff home in a taxi as I once did); my main computer table is from Ikea - rock solid (and heavy )
