Default Pegasus Mail Program

After discussion and investigation, I downloaded the free Pegasus mail program, and its associated manual. I installed it, but I am having trouble getting it going. I want to have two "identities" to download mail for me and mail for a special email address I use for financial messages.

I see how to set up two identities. I have run the "Wizard" to enter the email address, password, and POP3 and SMTP parameters for Comcast.

What I don't know is how to get Pegasus to go get the mail. Eudora has an icon for that, but I don't see one on Pegasus, nor am I quite sure that I have the two identities "David" and the other one, properly lined up with the two email addresses.

As is often the case, the first few steps of a new program are sometimes the hardest ones to figure out. I have not found out what I need to know from the HELP, but next I will try the manual.

There are mail check and send options under the File menu or on the toolbar (the icons that look like little globes).

I don't use multiple identies (have enough trouble getting myselves to agree on what to call the one I use) but Tools, Identities, choose one, click Become seems to be the way to switch. You can also choose a different identity for sending mail; start a new email, then click the Special tab.

But how do I get it to go read the incoming mail? In Eudora, it is obvious. In Pegasus, not so obvious to the beginner.

That's what mail check does. File, Check host for new mail (or the second of the two globe-ish icons)

I have the three email addresses working now by following the instructions on a Pegasus FAQ page.

Downloading mail from one of them repeatedly stalled at an incoming message with a 8 Mb PDF attached. Since I had that attachment elsewhere, I deleted the message and the rest came down just fine.

However, it does raise the issue about attachments. Is there a size limit, and if so, what is the limit? I will try the Pegasus documentation, but perhaps you know.

I don't believe there's any limit on attachment size. I'm fairly sure I've gotten attachments larger than that (though I do my best to discourage 'em)

Default Address Book Additions

Is there any way to acquire email names and addresses from the incoming mail? I could do this with the Comcast web mail with the browser, but I don't see how it would be done with Pegasus. Cut and paste into the address books is awkward and time consuming.

Right click anything Peg sees as an address (ie, in green type). Add to addressbook is only one of the options there. Lots of useful choices.

Default Default Email Program

My default email program, which starts when I click on a web email address, is MS Outlook. I know how to change it, but the pull-down list does not include Pegasus. Maybe there is some Windows option to be tweaked to get Pegasus as a choice, now that it is working in other circumstances.

Thank you for your patience in answering my frequent questions. Some things I figure out from the Help or Manual or online FAQ, some not.

Good question. Which browser? It'll be different for each. MSIE has the mail program choice in Tools, Internet Options, Programs. Other browsers will probably stash it in someplace similar.

Or the short version: it's set on a browser by browser basis.

Hope that helps some ...
