There is a store in Paris called "Le Drugstore" - or was. (It has been a while since I've been in to Paris.) But the word "drugstore" isn't in current use as far as I'm aware. There are "pharmacies" which are subject to heavy regulation and tight control, and there are "parapharmacies" which sell mostly health and beauty items, plus first aid supplies and maybe some herbal supplements.

The Academie Française is an interesting phenomenon. Some folks try to stick closely to their pronouncements, but some of their rulings simply fail to catch on. Years ago they tried to insist that "le weekend" should be replaced by "le fin de semaine" but it never took. The same seems to have happened more recently with "CéDé ROM" for CD ROM.

But "ordinateur" is proclaimed by many here to be the French word for "computer" - and justified by saying "why should we use borrowed words when there are perfectly good French words available for the same thing?"
(French logic always kind of loses me...)
Cheers,
Bev
