Adobe's PDFMaker varies with the version, but all the PDF files made with it are marked as made the equivalent version if Distiller. I've used every one from v. 5 to v. 8.1 and they've proved reliable, for text that is. If you want to preserve Word line-flow, you can quite easily as long as you used Adobe PDF as the print driver: I don't know if the proviso is really necessary—Adobe reckons it helps.
