Default Forum offline 29 Jun 07

We will be closing the forum at 6:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, 29 June 2007.

We are changing hosts, and do not know for sure when the forum will be available again. It may be closed for 12 (or as many as 36) hours.

Please forgive the inconvenience, but we believe this will be a good move for the forum, with more reliability in the future.

Have a good weekend.

Glad you're back (and that the forum wasn't closed for 36 h), but another time those of us that are less adept at interpreting '6:30 p.m. EDT' would be grateful if you would cite the time in some more universally intelligible form, e.g. 22.30 GMT.

Glad you made it, Michael.

No matter how the time is expressed, some majority will find it awkward and I was in too much of a rush to think too hard about it, anyway.

Let us know if this seems faster (or, please not, slower) than our old place.

It seems faster to me at the moment.

All the thread tiles are bold, which makes finding new messages harder.

I've had to log in twice now; I don't know if this effect is permanent.

I've seen both your warning about odd characters appearing and an example of it.

I'm not complaining (except for your imagining that non-Americans understand your national time zones but 'BST' would be as bad!), just letting you know how I am seeing the forum.

I reread some of the old threads and they seem more interesting on the new server.

Now that is interesting!

Guess we all benefit from a little shake-up once in a while.

Guess the dust got shaken off, so they shine like new again!

But not any more: I had forgotten to tick (or cross) the little box that's labelled 'Remember me' (after Purcell?).
