Default We are back!

There was a glitch — turned out to be a common problem cited at the vBulletin forums. Once we found the solution, all was fine, but we lost a few hours while we slept.

There is one oddity: Where special (UTF-8) characters were used, we are seeing the wrong characters. It appears that this is self-correcting over time; sure hope so. But if you see anything egregious, please let us know, and we will fix it if we can.

I missed the alert, but it's good to see "us" back!

Is the UTF-8 problem vBulletin-related or another version of the backend database?

Not sure. It also happened to Ann when she moved her vB forum recently (from and to the same hosts as ours). She said after a few days the correct characters came back.

I have fixed the most egregious examples (in our header, for example). But sure hope it fixes itself otherwise, as there are apostrophes, em-dashes, and other ‘special’ characters scattered among many posts.

Interestingly, I had that when I upgraded my WordPress installation. Now that Fantastico is nagging me again as of today about upgrading WP, I hope I don't have to fix those darn characters all over again.

I wonder if this is similar or a hijacking?

I use the Unofficial Averatec Forum for support for my Averatec laptop -- http://www.averatecforums.com -- but this morning when I went to that address I got a Rally accessory company website and just now I'm getting:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Great Success !
Apache is working on your cPanel and WHM Server

If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.
ATTENTION!

If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending an email to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running cPanel, WebHost Manager, and Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group. Please do not send mail about this site or its contents to cPanel Inc. or the Apache Group.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
and some stuff about cPanel.

I've sent an email to the old webmaster ...... weird!

Seems like a similar problem — an encoding mismatch.

In any event, there is a discussion and global fix for the UTF8/Latin1 confusion on the Wordpress forum.

Thanks -- I hope they sort it out.

I'll leave the fixing to someone else, thank you <g>
