Well, first off--what is "Prakashak"? Is it a font? If so, what format is it--truetype, opentype, postscript? Is it a Unicode font?

Okay, that is a clue...

How is it not working? Can you not see it in the font list? Does it not make the proer characters? Does it make no characters?

Prakashak is a Tamil font, right? PageMaker 7.0 is quite old, and may not be compatible with the font, which is unicode based, correct? (InDesign might work better, but I cannot promise that.)

The problem might also have to do with your operating system — can you use any other non-English fonts in any application?

I have been searching for more information on this, and found this “Overview of Different Tools for Word-Processing of Tamil and a Proposal Towards Standardisation.” Unfortunately, I do not know enough to tell whether it has information to help you figure this out.

But in the meantime, you might want to take a look at that.

Maybe someone else will come along with better information.

I think Prakashak is a Tamil font developed by Sonata (an IT company in Bangalore). Unicode certainly has a range for Tamil scripts, and there is a description in Unicode 4 (to be superseded by Unicode 5 shortly), and Prakashak is almost certainly an Open Type font. Although PageMaker 7 is the latest (and last?) version of that program, I don't think it does anything about advanced Unicode features, which may be needed to write properly in the Tamil script.

If the font shows correctly in other applications (e.g. Notepad), there may be something wrong with PageMaker 7. In which case perhaps Sonata would be able to help.

Default Another peculiar problem

I am using Prakashak, and Pagemaker.
While exporting it to PDf, the character (corresponding to ASCII Code 129) is getting replaced with some other character.
This problem is not evidence, if I print it to non-postscript printers like HP 1000.
Please help to solve this problem.

PMJI -- I don't know about Pagemaker and other Adobe products but Adobe Reader 8 has just had an update with a whole bunch of "foreign language support files" so maybe something similar is needed for your version of Pagemaker?
