Do you trace okay using a mouse? Because sometimes people who come from a mousing background (as opposed to a sketch pad background) feel better on the smallest tablet. And yours is not that smallest.

You could run a test by telling the Wacom software to make the active surface on your pad about 5" wide and 3" deep. Then see how you do. If that is much better, you could work up slowly to a larger size.
