Default Magazine issue deleted before going to press

Holy moly, what a nightmare! A magazine's June issue was accidentally deleted before going to press!

Putting ones faith in a server and its backup system is very bad practice. The editor should have had two extra backups in different locations.

Sorry, but I would fire the entire IS department. What the heck do they mean, the backup wasn't working properly. Didn't they check??

As for the editor having extra backups in two different locations, in my world, the editor doesn't get the final, perfect, blessed, ready-for-prepress files. No doubt lots of people had copies of the files in their various stages as they passed through the workflow, and in my opinion, someone in production should have had the final, blessed, ready-for-prepress versions on their local hard drive. I always do
No, IS screwed up big time on this one. Why have a backup system in place at all if it doesn't work?
