Default Helvetica - soon in a theater near you

Helvetica had its formal world premiere at the SXSW festival last week and is on tour. Dallas and New York are already sold out. I just bought a ticket for the April 11 Boston screening, where Gary Hustwit (the director) and Matthew Carter will be on the Q&A panel.

That sounds very cool.

We have had other discussions here, as in this thread.

Don't miss Helvetica if it comes anywhere near you.

I saw it last night at the Mass. College of Art. Also in the audience were Mike Parker and Matthew Carter, both prominently featured, and both seeing it for the first time. In a panel discussion with the producer, they said nice things about the film.

Astounding high-definition photography, great shots of Helvetica in signs in several cities, and insightful and often funny interviews not just about the font but about the place of graphic design in society. (Sounds pretentious, maybe, but very well done.)

If you don't get to see it in a theater setting, it's currently scheduled for DVD release (with "director's cuts," incuding bloopers) in September.

Trivia: the cinematographer, Luke Geissbuhler, shot the movie immediately after finishing work as a director of photography for Borat

Oh yay!!! It's doubtful the local theater that shows open captioned movies will be showing this and I really wanted to see it...will make a note on my calendar to look for the dvd in September...
