Default St. Bride Library in peril

I am late in mentioning this, but the renowned St. Bride Printing Library in London is in financial trouble. It needs serious refurbishing, to the tune of 7 mllion pounds.

We all benefit from the existence of this place, which maintains a priceless repository of printing lore, on (from the brochure): “paper and binding; graphic design, typography, typefaces, and calligraphy; illustration and printmaking; publishing and bookselling; and the social and economic side of printing and its allied trades.”

It sponsors lectures and other events. Two coming up are “Typography: Alan Kitching at St. Bride Library” (February 13, 7 p.m.) and “The Second Annual Justin Howes Memorial Lecture” (February 20, 7 p.m.). And it has an acclaimed annual conference.

Anyone can support the Library. Become a Friend for £30/year, and get a discount admission to lectures and the conference, receive Ultrabold, a journal. Or you can contribute more under a variety of annual and monthly schemes.

You may never get a chance to visit, but it is worth contributing just to keep the place alive.

Join the Friends of the St. Bride Library, and do a good deed for the entire world. (I joined — it is easy on-line, using pounds, U.S. dollars, or euros.)
