Hi Kathleen, thanks for the tip on the viewer, but it seems to be only for images. These lineart maps we get are produced by some obscure scientific mapping program in a government department, which apparently only produces black and white pdfs. We need to colour the map, then merge it into another pdf which contains the text, etc. You are correct, it could probably be done in Illustrator, but we get dozens at a time which have to be printed overnight, so bringing the maps into another software is too slow, we are trying to automate the workflow. We are looking at other pdf tools, I thought someone might know of one that can do this. I suspect we will have to get something programmed, as I get the same blank response wherever I post this message!
