As Susie says, there are still a lot of Ventura diehards out there but it does appear as if Corel have given up on the program. That doesn't mean the program is not functional (and still ahead of its time on some fronts) but it is unlikely to get updated.

One question that needs to be asked - what are you intending to produce? Ventura is still the best choice for structured production of things like books.

Ventura will still run (at least version 7, not sure about 8 or 10) on your Win98 box but, of course, there is not a version for the Mac. The best choice for that would be InDesign or Quark. I would also upgrade the OS to 10.4.
