Default Why Eudora may not live at the post office anymore

I've been using Eudora for many years without any major problems. But a couple of weeks ago, she decided to start downloading multiple copies (as many as 8) of the e-mail messages for one of my e-mail accounts. (I have at least 7 e-mail addresses, but only one of them has the problem.)

I have two addresses with the same provider, but only one of them gets duplicate e-mails. I've tried all of the fixes I found on eudora.com and the Eudora user forum. My provider built me a new mailbox in case the old one had become corrupt. No joy.

Unless anyone knows the secret of fixing the problem, what are my other options for e-mail clients? I won't even consider Outlook (or whatever it's called). I want something that places attachments in the folder designated, like Eudora does.

Default Eudora

If you can't tolerate this problem with Eudora, I cannot suggest anything else, since I have been using Eudora for years without any real problems other than being unable to keep up with the volume sometimes.

Could you continue with Eudora with everything except this problem email address?

Oh, for those who don't know, Eudora is named for Eudora Welty, who wrote the short story with the title above.

Unfortunately, the problem email address is my primary address -- the one that my clients use. And all of my friends and relatives use that address. It would be a nuisance to change it, and/or to use a different program just to check that address. I can check it via webmail, but I don't like webmail -- only use it when I travel.

I had heard of Pegasus so I searched for it, but discovered that it has just been discontinued.

FWIW, several other Eudora users have been complaining about the duplicate email problem. Fixes that work for some users don't work for others (including me!).

I converted both of our machines using Eudora over to Thunderbird and would not even think of going back! Works just fine for us, with good filters etc. and handles multiple accounts with ease.

Eudora is moving over to use the Thunderbird engine, as the software development and support gets moved from Qualcom to Mozilla.

Worth a look - and imports accounts from Eudora. I ran them in parallel for about 4 weeks before finally junking it.

Hm, very odd! I use Eudora with multiple e-mail addresses and am not seeing the problem with any of them. I'm using version 7.0.1.0. Is this a "known problem" with Eudora for some users? I've never heard of it before!

That happens sometimes: it's happened to me—as sender! As far as I could see, when you're sending to multiple addresses, sometime the sending program doesn't complete the list because it has been timed out, so it tries again, and again, and again . . . The trouble is that those whose addresses are near the beginning of the list get a copy of the message every time the sending program tries. I once had someone tell me it was happening—but only after she had received the message fourteen times! The solution is for the sender to withdraw the message and try again later when his ISP's system is working a bit better.

Is it all messages for that email account, or just some? Also, when you look compare the duplicate messages, have you ever looked at the detailed version of the headers? Are all headers the same?

Yes, blast it, David Harris has stopped development on Pegasus.
I'll have to ask Herself if she's had any dupe mail problems. I set her up with the latest version of Eudora and haven't any email-related screams from above so far.

Okay, I'll try Thunderbird. I'll probably wait until the weekend when I have more time to fool with it.

How does Thunderbird handle attachments (I couldn't find any info about it in the FAQ)? Does it drop them into a designated folder?
