Is there a master list available somewhere that lists a given font with all its similar names?
Not really. There used to be, back when there were only about 10,000 licensed fonts and fewer clones or knockoffs. But since the desktop digital era began, those numbers have increased drastically and no one can keep track of the changes, nor of all the shareware/freeware fonts around.

The Bitstream Analog lists the trademark names of fonts it has cloned. The list includes quite a few of the pre-desktop era fonts, and would be a good place to start.

You are entering tricky ground. Palatino Linotype is not the same as Book Antiqua (the latter being a copy of the earlier digital Palatino — and the desktop version of Palatino is not really a faithful copy of the original metal font). Hermann Zapf did actually design Palatino Linotype (unlike Book Antiqua).

There are many faces called Garamond that are really different faces, fewer than half of them actually based on the original Garamond; and then we have Garamond-like faces with different names, such as Sabon.
