Default Quark crashing on new Intel Mac

I've installed Quark, 6.0 and upgraded it to 6.52 on an new Intel Mac Pro (10.4.8), however the the program crashes upon launch, on all versions! I did get it running long enough to validate, but then it crashed and won't run.

I've removed everthing but system fonts, cleared the font caches, removed all printers. . .but it still launches the splash screen for about 1 second and then crashes.

I installed it on a new Intel MacBook Pro with the exact same results.

Any suggestions? Upgrading to 7 isn't an option yet.

The Quark forum registration appears to be down as well. (no confirmation e-mails after several attempts)

Thanks,
Rob

I don’t think XPress is compatible with Intel Macs. Version 7 probably runs, and Quark says they plan to release a beta of a universal binary version of QXP 7 by the end of January (with the final available later in the year).

You can read more in this MacWorld announcement from yesterday.

Sorry for the bad news.

The 6.52 release references intel macs, so from that I assume that it should run. No where have I found any info about it not running on intel based macs. 7 is the first universal version.

We are running 6.5 on a MacPro here at our office. Seems to be working fine.

Standard troubleshooting with Macs is to trash the application's prefs file, then relaunch the program. Hope this helps.

Okay, then have you repaired permissions recently? Discarded the XPress preferences file?

That is where I would begin.

Also, I would make sure no other programs are running when you try to start it up. Suitcase has auto-activate that has been known to crash my Quark at times. Also, Illustrator has had conflicts for some reason. Also, any plug-ins may have conflicts, although if you just insalled it you probably don't have any new plug-ins active.

I'm using it on a Intel Mac with the only rpoblem really being when I quit out of the program it unexpectedly quits.

After trashing the plist files and the folder form the preferences, in the Quark applications folder there's a "For System" folder. Inside is a file called "Quark components", try running that installer, that might help your problem.
