Default Firefox 2.0 released

If you are eager to grab the next version of Firefox, the Windows version is available at the Firefox FTP site.

No idea when other versions will become available. The Mac download is still at RC 3.

Nope.

Now the Mac version is also available at the Firefox FTP site!

I must have confused myself. Mea culpa.

What you see probably depends on what OS you use to visit the site.

The whole list...

That's quick. Release candidate 3 was only released on the 17th October - less than a week ago.

Seems that the publication of links to the new FF has upset Mozilla developers a bit. They asked Slashdot to remove their link to an ftp mirror. Seems that they still have some security checks to run? See this blog.

Official release time is Tuesday afternoon, Pacific time.

Appears that the final release is the same as RC3 which is why it appeared so quickly after RC3. In any case I have it installed and working on my laptop. The only one of my extensions that did not update for use with 2.0 is the extended console. I'll install it on this main PC later - but I have far more extensions installed on this one.

And more at this blog — entitled “It’s not like we’re ashamed” — as well.

Both my Mac and my PC updated themselves automatically this morning – to 1.5.0.7!

That version has been around for some time. It has been suggested on MozillaZine that the auto-update to 2.0 may not be introduced until a 1.5.0.8 release. Thus if any problems come to light they will be sorted before the plain old users get the upgrade.

Works just fine for me!!
