Default What is good design?

The site asks, "What constitutes good design? Is it beauty? Is it function?"

If it's function alone, I nominate clumping cat litter. But it fails miserably when it comes to beauty, LOL!

If it's beauty alone, any piece of art that is beautiful in the eye of the beholder could be nominated.

So it would seem to me that both beauty and function ought to be considered when choosing candidates for good design.

What do you all think?
