I finally got clever. Since this is a page to be faxed, I just changed the ink color to red, and that printed just fine. But I do think I should have black!

Someone suggested washing the cartridge. Sounds tricky to me.

Anyway, should I just throw it out and get a new one, extravagant as it seems?
I'm going to watch this discussion like a hawk, because I've been going through the same thing, but with our Epson Stylus Photo 2200. We did swap in another brand new cartridge and still had trouble. Finally Bruce did get it to print at least well enough for general things like invoices, receipts, and text pages by taking the cartridge out and giving it a slight tap until he could see a little fluid ink (kind of priming a pump, he described it), then put the cart back in. It prints mostly fine now, but on more solid ink coverage like in photos, you see a thin white line at regularly spaced intervals. Very frustrating.
