I've got one in the corner ... similar sounding symptoms. Wanna tie 'em together and if they don't make babies in 9 months, put 'em in a sack and drown 'em in the Housatonic? Or the Ohio. Ewwww.

Run a few cleaning cycles. Sometimes that's enough to sort it out.
You can also get cleaning kits for them and that works sometimes.
There's also a repair that you can make if you're patient enough to take them apart and get ink all over everything, I imagine.

I just read a bunch of reviews and found that a LOT of people have this problem. Went poking around for comparable printers and found the Canon ip4200 which got an astonishing number of reviews on Amazon, nearly all of them somewhere between favorable and deliriously happy.

One followed me home. Seems like a nice li'l printer so far, though I haven't had chance really to abuse it thorougly <g>.

It's a USB-only, unlike the Epson, but I don't imagine you got a lot of use out of the Parallel port anyhow. It does come with drivers for Mac OS/X but I've no idea how well they work.

FWIW.

If you do get the Epson working, make me an offer I can't refuse. I have a couple ink carts I can't use. (It's like this: I know I should try to fix the thing. I have all the best intentions of doing so. Realistically? Nottachance.)
