Default Epson C84 printer on strike!

I just put in a new black ink cartridge and now the printer produces no ink at all on the page when printing black text.

I finally got clever. Since this is a page to be faxed, I just changed the ink color to red, and that printed just fine. But I do think I should have black!

Someone suggested washing the cartridge. Sounds tricky to me.

Anyway, should I just throw it out and get a new one, extravagant as it seems?
