Default Adobe Acrobat Version Differences

I am considering buying a newer version of Adobe Acrobat through eBay. The latest version is there, but also versions 6, and 5, and 4.

What I want to know is whether I should be satisfied with version 5, for example, rather than a more recent version. Although I have posted in Print Production & Automation, I don't need a PDF for printed matter, only for posting on the web.

Also, I am concerned about the size of a PDF, not wishing to create problems for part of my civic association audience still on dial-up Internet service.

So, please tell me about version differences that might be important.

(My Win98SE has a really old version, but that computer no longer boots. I also had two other pieces of software which produced a PDF on the old computer.)
