Can anybody tell me how to start with text pattern...create pages, create global navigation and left navigation etc etc...or if somebody can guide me to a tutorial where i can find all this stuff...any help would be really appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

I'm not aware of them doing blogging applications now - do they?

Sumit,

This Google search should give you some places to start.

I have been struggling with Textpattern for a couple of years, but am in no sense a maven at it.

You set up pages in the Write section — just create an article, save it, and you have a page. Its access is controlled via the categories. Its appearance is controlled by the CSS and by the template used: default, archive, or others you create by modifying the template and giving the result a unique name.

The default page has navigation elements built in — you can delete them, customize them, move them around, etc. to create the page design you like.

But this is where I begin to get lost. So far as I know, there is no coherent guidance for creating a functional site in Textpattern. I am no techie, however, so may just be dim.

I assume you have explored the Textpattern wiki, knowledge base, and forum archives, with no success?

I should say that I just recently set Textpattern aside in favor of WordPress. It is more bloglike, but I am slowly whipping it into a simple CMS. Unlike Textpattern, WordPress has useful, well ordered documentation.

Good luck. If you have specific questions, I may be able to help.

No, not applications, but they cover all the basics of the protocols, etc.

Thanks to Marjolein’s googling, I found a Textpattern tutorial by Doub Edmunds. It is a bit out of date, and I got confused around Part 6, but just working through the first few helped me sort out some of my confusion.

Let us know how you fare.

There is no information on Textpattern there (nor on WordPress, Joomla, or any of the other PHP-dependent content systems).
