Default Staples Wants a Cookie Set

I tried to go to www.staples.com
with Firefox set to ask me about cookies, but their web site rejected me. See the attachment. Not very friendly.

No, but sort of common.

That sort of stuff happens to Mac users all the time, alas.

What is your cookie setting?
I have Firefox to allow cookies but discard them all when I close Firefox.
Haven't yet found any place it interferes.

Code:
[X] Allow sites to set Cookies
[_] for the originating site only
[_] unless I have removed cookies set by the site
Keep Cookies [ until I Close Firefox ]

I have FF set to always prompt me - and then for most sites choose session cookies only. That allows me to get into the Staples site just fine (allowing a second one for www4.staples.com and denying one for ads). FF 1.07, that is - I don't have 1.5 installed yet.

I allow cookies (use Netscape 7.2) but then I make the cookies.txt file read-only and change that only when I need the cookie to be really written to the file--like for my bank and a couple of other places--and then I reset the read-only attribute...

I have done it that way and sometimes allow any cookies any time, but still get told by some sites that I cannot do anything because I do not allow cookies. In Firefox, Camino, and Safari.

Dunno what the issue is. It affects the Consumer Reports site, in fact. I was able to register, and have a user name and password that the site as a whole accepts, but if I go to the publication area and try to read, it stops me because I do not allow cookies (when I certainly do). Makes me nuts.
