Default Acrobat CS Won't Install

Photoshop CS (Windows) was freezing. I finally decided to do a full uninstall, reinstall. After the reinstall, Acrobat is not available. I went to Add/Remove Programs. The process for Adobe CS show Acrobat not installed. I told it to install. It said it was installing 400 mb of stuff. I watched the Program Files\Adobe folder and saw a folder for Acrobat 6.0 be created. At the end of the process, that folder is gone and neither Acrobat nor Distiller is present.

I have done this a couple of times, including deleting the relevant parts of the Registry.

Suggestions?

I have read that Acrobat should be uninstalled before being re-installed, as you can't have two versions on one machine. If you had a newer version than the CS, this might have caused the problem.

IOW, uninstall Acrobat, install CS. If there is now an Acrobat, but the wrong version, uninstall it, and reinstall the new version.

Problem solved. Took far longer than it shouild have. Finally paid Adobe for help. The fundamental problem was that the MS Installer was erroring off, unable to register the IE helper DLL. But I had to search a 4 mb log file to find that out. Not sure what the final solution was, but part of it was using MSCONFIG to killl all but the most essential processes and copying the installer CDs to the harddrive. Not sure the latter was necessary, but I did that before getting it all to work.....
