Default New Emigre catalog

Just received the new Emigre catalog. Print catalogs are vanishing like the dodo, so it is nice to get one from anyone.

It provides detailed showings the popular text families and one-liner showings of display types. One of the catalog’s especially nice features: A list of all their fonts with the name of the designer on the inside front cover. Very civilized.

They also provide their user license information in plain English and reasonably large type right in the front of the catalog. Emigre’s basic license allows use of a font on up to 6 devices (computer, printer, etc.) at a single location. They also offer a supplemental “service bureau license” that explicitly permits you to supply the fonts to your service bureau or printer for output. (I do not see what that costs, but if the cost is reasonable, it at least removes all ambiguity.)

Emigre is producing OpenType versions of their entire library, it says. So far six families — Cholla, Fairplex, Filosofia, Mrs Eaves, Triplex, and Vista — are available in OpenType format.

All in all, a nice catalog.

There doesn’t seem to be a facsimile of the catalog at the web site, but you can view all the fonts and other information at Emigre.com.
