Default Morgan Library modernized

I hope it will not be unfortunate, but the venerable Morgan Library in NYC has undergone a three-year makeover that added 75,000 square feet and resulted in a new name, Morgan Library & Museum, and a new focus on the 20th century.

With its Gutenberg Bible, old manuscripts, graphic and other art (especially drawings), the Morgan has long been favored by graphic designers and typographers. It helps that it is located downtown (36th Street) where the design students study rather than uptown like the Modern, Guggenheim, Whitney, and Metropolitan.

They say the increased space will allow them to put on more useful exhibits, which should be a good thing. But I cringed a bit to read that their big fall exhibition will be “Bob Dylan’s American Journey: 1956 to 1966”!

Read about “Morgan Library to Reopen With an Expanded Look, Name and Mission” at the New York Times site (you may need to register, but it is free).
