Default css initial value

Just showing my ignorance here (again...)!

If an initial value is not inherited are there any reasons for declaring it if that is the desired choice? Or is that just stating the obvious?

I'm only trying to keep the size of my style sheets down.

Sometimes, the result is different if you declare the default value than let it default - not that makes much senese as I write it. An example (for IE of course) is that I did a design where I expected form elements to inherit the size set on body: but they did not, and only when I put in 'font-size: 1em' did the style sheet work as expected.

To answer your question: only put it in if it makes a difference.

If you know for sure that an element will behave a certain way by default in all browsers, then I guess you can safely leave it undeclared.

It will be interesting to hear what others say about this, though.

Well, I don't since I only have a few (MSIE, Opera, FireFox, Mozilla and AOL Explorer) and access to a PC only.

I have had a look at others style sheets and have noticed that some are using a "bare-bones" approach with a very small amount of declarations (compared to mine anyway).

I'm sure there are others who can give us the lowdown on style sheets.

That's what I'm counting on anyway!
