This curious announcement showed up after the financial markets closed on Friday. Astonishing, really, considering John Warnock’s sentimental attachment to Illustrator! Here is the press release.
For immediate release Designers Gain Dream Weaver & Flash Integration with Adobe FreeHand CS2 Mid-cycle replacement designed to cement Adobe/Macromedia superiority in web and print development software SAN JOSE, Calif. — April 1, 2006 — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® FreeHand® CS2 software, a significant workflow enhancement between graphically-rich vector content and software for creating graphics for print, motion graphics, Web and mobile devices. Available as a stand-alone software application or as a key component of Adobe Creative Suite 2 (by means of an updater), FreeHand CS2 enables designers to rediscover the power of multi-page layout in a creative vector graphics tool — including live vector and raster effects such as bevel and blur and the ability to reshape graphic primitives while keeping them editable. At the same time, it retains Adobe’s tight integration with Photoshop®, InDesign®, Acrobat®, and Adobe Bridge, the tool that knits all CS2 programs together. This product merger creates an enhanced industry standard. “With the introduction of FreeHand CS2, we have all the power over vector graphics we used to have with Illustrator combined with the flexible assets of FreeHand — and its strong compatibility with Flash and Dream Weaver,” said Natalie Drest, president and chief designer at Aline Design in Miami. “We couldn’t be happier than with this upgrade — it is a dream come true!” [Continued] __________________ :: |

OK, KK, who did that magnificent box art? And, come to think of it, that plant has no writing on it. Oh, officer! Tweeeeeeeet.
