Downloaded the trial ver. Will test it out tomorrow. Looks similar to CD12.

I'm surprised that Corel has released a new version only a year after 12. Surely there can't be so many new things to warrant a major release, can there? Suppose we'll have to wait and see...

I think Version 12 was released in February 2004. But I agree, there are not many new features. And I wonder why they are saying the star tool is new. But I've upgraded some software just to get one feature, if it was compelling enough. I guess we just need to see all that is there.

S'funny, shortly after posting a recent message about not seeing anything on the Corel US home page about X3, I actually got an e-mail from Corel announcing it.

And now it's splashed all over the web site.

Guess they wanted to e-mail me before updating their web site. <LOL>

OK I've just had a bash at it today on a prepress job. It's pretty similar to v12 apart from a few (decent) tweaks.

1. The earliest version that it will save down to is 7.
2. I'm slightly disappointed that Corel still haven't set up a proper colour management system (eg you can't use SWOP or Euroscale, let alone ISO).
3. It won't import AI CS2 documents.
4. It still won't import a PSD file containing drop shadows or blooms. Actually, it imports the file but doesn't show the blooms, and doesn't tell you, either.
4a. Aarghh!! PhotoPaint does the same! They really should have got that old problem fixed by now.

Thanks for letting us know. Were you able to finish the job using X3?

Yes, it seemed to work out fine. The artwork was originally done in v12, but my PDFs look OK. Real shame about the colour management and the Photoshop problems, though.
