Default Fonto 4.7 Windows fonts

I opened an old font in Fonto 4.7/OS X and saved it as a Type 1 font for Windows in order to send it to Marlene. Oddly, OS X thinks the files I generated are Excel spreadsheets; and Marlene reported that ATM in Windows called the files "not valid font files". Anyone with Fonto 4.7 encounter this?

No. But wasn’t there always a problem with generating Windows T1 fonts on a Mac? I sort of remember having to ask a Windows-FOG-using friend to actually generate the PC files.

Back in the old days when Classic wasn't yet Classic, I always sent PC font files to my partner Klaus in Germany that were generated in Fonto-Mac. And he could always read them. I just tried opening up the same font file in Font Lab and generating PC Type 1, and this time the icons were "PC bin", not Excel spreadsheets. I have sent them to Marlene to see if they work for her.

They ought to — never heard that FontLab had that problem.

Let’s hope it works.

FOG sets the type and creator for the files to BINA/mdos. If you have MS Office installed the files get the Excel icon, that is Excel is the default application to open files like that. You can just Get Info for e.g. fontfile.pfb file and change the default application for it. Even Fontographer itself.
The icon shown in Mac OS X cannot affect the way the font is accepted by ATM on Windows.

Johnych

Yes! Thank you too much. The new Trafton files work fine.

Sorry for not responding sooner. This has been a hellish month ...

ATM (on my PC) barfed on the FOG files, but it liked the FontLab files just fine.
