Default Private message folders

I'm trying to handle private messages for the first time...

I managed to read one, and reply. So far so good. Then I made a folder, and stored the message I got in it -- even better.

Then I wanted to store my reply into the same same folder -- and found I was unable to do that. All I can do with a sent message apparently is leave it sitting in the standard "Sent" folder or delete it. Why is that? I always prefer to keep messages received and replies sent together (I do that with my email as well).

Is this a limitation of the forum software or something that is configured like this at the server end?
