Maybe that's why the hole in the middle is a slightly different size.

Really. I apologize for the misinformation. I always wondered that NBC wouldn't buy out the station. But I don't remember the logo being used very long, and when I searched the NBC site the section about their logo history left that logo out (just checked now, and couldn't find anything on the site about the logo). I assumed that it was omitted from shame.

But Wikipedia does confirm what you say ... the logo was used in for nearly 10 years (I don't remember it being that long) and mentioned the settlement.

It does strike me as odd that a design company could bill $500,000 for creating a logo and not research to the point where they look at other logos in the same industry, in the same country.

NBC couldn’t buy out a PBS station (not back then anyway; today, who knows?). But they could obviously give them lots of money!

It does seem odd, doesn’t it? Have no clue (don’t even remember who did the work, and I suppose they haven’t gone out of their way to publicize their role!).

Buy out didn't mean buying the station ... I mean't buying the rights to the logo, which of course they did.
