Default INETPUB CIS forum to close

From an announcement on INETPUB (Internet Publishing Forum):
After many years of operation, the Internet Publishing Forum will be closing its doors as of August 31. We are grateful for the friends we've made and the chance we've had to teach and to learn as much as we can about web design and publishing. It's been a lot of fun, and we appreciate the help -- and education -- we've received from all the many forum members over the years. … We hope to cross paths with you again somewhere out there...

-- The Internet Publishing Forum Staff
Many of us are sad to see INETPUB go. Although the web offers many excellent resources, most offer advice on specialized aspects of web publishing — HTML, CSS, PHP, and so on.

INETPUB is a generalist in a world of specialists, introducing thousands of people to the web development process and helping many of us learn how to build and maintain personal and business web sites.

INETPUB will be sorely missed.

I hope you notified them of this forum. Our web publishing section might be a new home for them.

I am on staff in INETPUB, so yes, they know.

In fact we will be expanding our web publishing coverage soon, and have acquired some of their very accomplished staff. Stay tuned.

Thank you Kathleen!

I came in tonight to agitate for more areas for web publishing. And if you check out the Internet Publishing Forum, I am agitating for everybody to come over here!

Sadly, InetPub is a faint shadow of what it was only a couple of years ago when I first joined (just like nearly all of the classic CIS forums). But maybe if they get enough presence here, some of the oldtimers might come back, as has happened with some of the former members of this forum.

I think Desktop and Web Publishing are a good fit these days and should work nicely together!

Richard - I am already moving my cardboard box from the staff room there to here! As you say, let's wish for a permanent home for all refugees here.

I think I have been using INETPUB for about 10 years now - and on the staff for a relatively short while. Like the UK Travel Forum which I used to Wiz, the pub used to be really busy, but surely suffered from the inadequate marketing of forums by CIS and then by AOL. The final nail was the loss of OLR.

For web developers must be hundreds of information forums out there, but very few show the friendly nature that has always been the main feature of the old CIS forums. This place seems pretty friendly, too.

Hi Kathleen,
Saddens me that it is closing, it was such a great place to be part of.
But, I am told this is a welcoming place with lots of new and old faces so hopefully I and many other former INETPUB residents can find a home here.
