Default Pretty nifty...'-}}

My niece's book is being published by Oxford University Press and they sent her a copy of the cover which I think is nicely done. The photograph was taken in the summer of 1935 in Hamtramck, MI--my niece got it through the archives at Wayne State University in Detroit. The woman in the black beret in the front is Mary Zuk and is one of the main characters in the book.

I'm really looking forward to reading the book when it comes out--not sure of the pub date--forgot to ask my niece...

That impressed the hell out of me when she told me...'-}}

I believe that the book is an extension of her thesis--doctoral, I think.

Thanks...I think it's pretty cool. I think the fact that OUP is publishing will be good exposure for the book and she might actually get some money for it...'-}}

OUP, eh? Around here, I frequently see OUPS roughly painted on telephone/utility poles or on the street just in front of them. Inevitably, these poles are sitting at an inebriated angle, not righteously right with respect to the ground.

For a long time, I wondered if this was the work of some likewise inebriated (and illiterate) graffitist. Yo, dude. It's "OOPS", man.

Nah. Turns out it's some kind of Ohio Utility Pole Service "fix this" mark.

A little more of the mystery has gone out of my life. Heavy sigh.
