They were huge affairs, but very well run, and the staff/other freelancers/vendors were a real pleasure to work with. I got the gig through the DTPForum on CIS, actually. One of the other members, Jim [somebody help me here; printer; northern midwest] and I used to trade off. Each of us would do one of the conferences every other month or so.

Setup was hectic, changing the one big ballroom into two after the keynote sessions was flatout insane, but otherwise, things ran smoothly enough that I could get quite a bit of work done backstage if I wasn't interested in the talk of the moment.

They finally held one in the DC area and for reasons I can't remember now, I wasn't able to go....

Heh ... I was at that one, most likely. I forget the year but they held it somewhere near DuPont Circle. That was convenient; lots of interesting restaurants nearby, attractive area to wander around in (not that the techies had much time to wander, mind). And somehow I ended up with a flight home that didn't leave until late in the day after the conference ended, so I spent most of the day at the zoo.

My memory is that it was at the Shoreham in Woodley park--up a bit from Dupont Circle--but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. I was pissed that I wasn't able to go. The DC Zoo is really a pretty nifty zoo...haven't been there in a long time...

Bingo. That would have been it. We ate at the Lebanese Taverna just up the street one night.

Yes, but which Manchester? The original or one of the many USpinoffs?

We've got a good 'un here in Cincinnati, too. Andy's Mediterranean Grill, in case anybody's in town and hungry. Short cab or bus ride from downtown and VERY good food. The equal of or better than any I've had elsewhere. On a par with the Taverna, Terrie.
