Default Eliminate Win 7 file and web history?

On the start menu there is a flyout menu to the right that shows recent websites visited and recent files opened. How to I remove this history (as opposed to hiding it)?

There are settings in Classic Shell that play with that...I'm on my way out the door but when I get back, I'll see if I can find the exact entries for you...

In the meantime, take a look at c:\users\yourwindowsuserid and there should be a "Recent" folder, delete the entries there. Not sure about the web stuff but will see what I can find other than going into Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > "Browsing History" subsection > Delete button --I have all those entries in that pop-up checkmarked except "Preserve Favorites website data"...

Have you tried opening IE (if that's your browser) > Tools >Internet Explorer Properties check box to delete history on closing ..... ?

But a better thought:

Right mouse click on the Start Button > Properties and uncheck one or both of the boxes?

Mine are both checked and I don't get your popout.

The history is Firefox and I was able to delete it from within Firefox per your suggestion.

Glad you got there.

So deleting History in FF stopped the pop out from the START menu?

Or does it build up again?

Does it collect the info from the default browser? If so, I could think of ways around having that displayed...

Bo

It was a query from Andrew not me; I did suggest something in right mouse click on START and Properties.

Yes, it builds up again. But I assume I could simply set it to delete on closing. The main thing is I now know I can control this list from within Firefox.

Did you have a look at the Windows START button properties setting:

Mine are both checked and I don't get your popout.
