steve: One of my laptops won't boot when the thing's plugged in at startup
Have you checked the BIOS/UEFI settings? When I booted up my new system the first couple of times, there were weird things going on with the USB ports and I discovered that there are BIOS/UEFI settings such that only the "essential" USB ports are fired up on boot and the rest come online after booting. I changed those settings so that all USB ports are active at boot--apparently the millisecond longer that takes (granted off an SSD so things are pretty quick anyway) is aggravating to some people.

What is USB-C? I've seen it ref'd but don't know anything about it...
