So far, I've found that if I don't have gpedit, I can do at least some things by beating up on the registry. The trick is working out exactly where to whack it.

Yeah...I know that jungle search well...'-}}

I have a (very) vague memory that gpedit can be acquired but I might be wrong. Which version of Windows do you have and I'll browse around and see what I can find...

Thanks for the offer, but no worries. I've got pro versions of Windows on all of the "real" machines. My newest laptop came with "Windows 10". Apparently if they don't explicitly state "Pro", you can expect Home, which is what this one had. I happened to have a key for a licensed copy of Win10 Pro so I used that to convert the Home jobbie to Pro and voila.

Glad you got it sorted...'-}}

There have been a (what might be a) growing number of users who post at dslreports.com forums who are starting to go back to Win7/Win8/8.1 because of the issues they are finding with Win10 updates and the update process itself. It's interesting to watch...'-}}

Dottie was not happy the other evening when the tablet we share and that she uses for therapy put up a blue screen when she went to shut it down -- something she'd not seen before.

In fact it had a whirly-gig and a message not to turn off your computer because we are updating it. l was aware of this situation since I'd already seen it when booting up one morning, which was a nuisance since I was in a hurry to check out something.

At least now in W10AE Home you can set an up to 12 hour band when MS is supposed not to do it! All Settings / Update and there's a link to it but I'm not on 10 at the moment and can't check the exact wording

That is what apparently has been driving a number of people 'round the bend--my guess is that the 12 reschedule option isn't working well for those same people...

Since you are running Windows 10, you might be interested in the thread on O&O ShutUp10's new version...
